Going to a Photowalk - Here is What You Should Bring With You

By Paulo Jordao

A lot of people still get confused with the name Photowalk and what it means. Photowalk is simply the act of walking with a camera taking pictures of your surroundings.

Recently it has been recognized as an event that brings Photographers and photography enthusiasts together in a specific location to walk certain route taking pictures of whatever they like.

At the end they would download their pictures and post them in a common group Website like flickr, so the can start comparing the pictures that they shot with the ones that the other people posted also.

So, what should you bring to the Photowalk?

CAMERA- After all this is a Photowalk. It can be a "Professional Camera" or a "Point and Shoot", but you need to bring a camera. Remember to check the "battery" and the "digital card" or "film" before you come, it seems silly but a lot of people make that mistake.

LENSES- If you are bringing a "SLR" camera, you will have a chance to bring one or more lenses depending how serious you want to take your pictures. Since you will be walking for 1 to 2 miles, I would suggest you to bring a zoom lens and maybe a wide angle lens. And if you are bringing a "Point and Shoot" camera, don't feel embarrassed with the fact that other people have their big cameras and you don't. I have seen, in few occasions, that some pictures taken with a little point and shoot some times came out with the same quality or even better than few ones taken with a SLR. The most important thing in photography is the person behind the camera.

TRIPOD- This is a personal choice and will impact a lot on the weight that you are going to be carrying around. If the Photowalk is early in the morning and you don't want to carry extra weight, it is better not bring yours. But if your Photowalk is going to happen late it the afternoon or early evening, it will be a smart decision having your tripod to help you on the quality of the pictures that you are taking.

FLASH- Most of the time you will not need one. Few cases that you are going to use your flash, is when you are trying to take someone's portrait. Once more, it will depend on how much weight you want to carry with you.

You should bring some extra things at your discretion like, a hat, bottle of water, some snack and etc.

All the information that I gave to you here is just a reminder. The best thing that you can do is go to your Photowalk and have some fun with the new friends that you are going to make. You are going to Love it!
